Malus tschonoskii – Crab Apple Tree

Description

Malus tschonoskii is an erect, conical shaped tree native to Eastern Asia and Japan. White flowers, tinged with pink appear in April and May and the lightly scented flowers are popular with the bees. The silvery white young leaves darken with age then turn to give one of the best autumn displays of around, with bold yellow, orange purple and scarlet foliage. At the same time, the small, red-flushed, yellow-green crab apples appear and these make a great source of winter food for hungry birds. This tree maintains a narrow habit and is therefore the perfect choice adding colour to a restricted space.
